Well, after a long plane ride we arrived early, somehow, at around 5 am local time. My dad finally decided to pick us up at 6ish and we got back to my grandparents' apartment at 'round 8ish.
Naturally, the first order of business was getting breakfast. Breakfasted consisted of a mix of sao bing (sesame..bread?), you tiao (deep fried sticks of batter I guess), dan bing (kinda like an egg on a flour tortilla) and of course, chocolate milk. After eating a meal that cost us probably $5, we decided to grab a few things at the grocery store and
Fortunately, my grandparents live RIGHT beside a subway station and...a friggin night market, pretty awesome eh? For lunch we went to the night market to get some Taiwanese Beef Noodles, my favourite meal evar. To compare, I'd eat it over a perfectly grilled steak, a lobster or king crab (although I do hate both). My first bowl of beef noodles was quite pleasant. I took the business card like I will be doing at every beef noodle restaurant I go to. I'm going to make a collage of them, ranked in order of how good they are.
After lunch my uncle came and picked us up. We went to CarreFour, which is like the French equivalent of Costco. You know, hordes of Asians abusing free samples, wholesale prices and a lot of fun. Naturally we headed to the beer section and loaded up. When beer is cheaper than water, SOMETHING's wrong...or conversely, awesome. My dad got in argument with my uncle and then we went home.
For dinner we went to a restaurant within National Taiwan University (no it's not like a 99 Chairs haha) where we met up with my cousin who goes to university an hour away. God he's changed a lot...picture a better looking version of me, I know, it's hard.
When we got back I had some beers with my dad, watched some Scrubs then hit the sack.
Day 2:
Main order of the day: watch the Canucks destroy the Blackhawks...oh wait. After watching my beloved Canucks get raped, we had lunch at my cousin's grandma's place and came back after that. I decided to go do some shopping on my own and hit up the night market. I dropped $600 (in Taiwanese dollars :D) on a couple of t-shirts and some food. God damn bubble tea is cheap here...not even $1 a cup, compared to $4-6 back home...cheap Asians.
So I watched some more Scrubs and dicked around until it was time for dinner. Again, we went for beef noodles, this time at a different night market. This restaurant was even better than the first one, I was pleased.
Afterwards we strolled through two different night markets before getting some yian su ji (pretty much like popcorn chicken, except awesomer and cheaper) and ji pai (get this...a huge piece of deep fried chicken breast for $1.50...) and then headed home where I decided to unwind with a nice cold bzzr.
God I love Taiwan.
